Scaphoid Protection System (SPS):

Knox has created a unique system that is designed to protect the Scaphoid. This is good news considering there are an estimated 100,000 Scaphoid injuries per year in the UK alone. The injury is common amongst bikers and the healing process is slow and often complicated. It occurs because of the “grab affect” of leather gloves on a road surface.

In an accident the glove palm grips the tarmac but the rider is thrown forward. This puts strain on the Scaphoid that often results in a break due to hyper extension. The Knox SPS eliminates this grip effect allowing the palm to slide forward, reducing the risk of Scaphoid injury. Many leading brands, including Spada, now incorporate Knox SPS in their gloves.

Placement:

Please note that it is vitally important to position the SPS correctly. The main thumb slider must be placed over and inline with the thumb muscles on the palm, these are handed so make sure they are used on the correct side. The smaller palm slider must also be placed on the palm over the lunate bone just in front of the outer wrist bone. Do not place on the side of the glove as this is the wrong position and will result in the SPS system not working.
